Ratings & Reviews
Rating: PG 13
There have been many controversies in the film world as to whether or not "Aquaman" is good or bad. The truth is, if you're looking for metaphors and searching for underlying meanings in the script, this movie isn't for you. However the fast paced drama and adventure seem to set a spark in the public's eye. It is imaginatevley ambitious and seems to lack cinematic rules that makes the movie strive to be an epic superhero movie. Nonetheless The character development seems to be lacking. Actor, Patrick Wilson, doesn't seem to quite grasp the extravagant villian, The Ocean Master, and Moama's good boy take on aquaman's character can only take the movie so far.
Positive Message
Aquaman has the classic message all superhero movies should have. Its hero's journey comunicates the importance of courage, loyalty, perseverance, responsibility, and strength of familial love. Sometimes it takes a voyage of self-discovery to learn what's necessary to triumph in the end.
Positive Role Models and Representation
It is made abundantly clear who good guys and bad guys are. There is the classic brave princess who fights for love, a strong mother figure who is also the queen who fights for her family, and a wise elder who plays the role of a mentor and stands up for what is right. Aquaman acts to protect his family; he doesn't want to rule as a king but eventually accepts his fate and the challenge for the greater good.
Questionable Content
The biggest issue here is the movie's frequent comic book-style violence; it's largely bloodless, but characters are beaten, impaled, and eaten by monsters, and weapons are used. Explicite anguage seems to be largely avoided and used infrequently. i would say that this movie is for people who are 11+.
